Into the Unknown

I feel like a crazy person. Packing the most important pieces of my life into little boxes…My wild day dreams about moving across the globe are now a reality, one that’s going to hit hard and sink in in two weeks time. In two weeks we will board our one way tickets to Austria and start a new chapter. I have to ask myself… what the F@&% was I thinking?

One of my favourite phrases is “Life is sweet, time is now”. I heard this for the first time from a crazy stoner when I was 20 years old on a deep water soloing trip in Mallorca. He had short bleach blonde dreads that stuck straight out of his head as though an electrical current was streaming through him. I had been observing him from a distance at the crag. He would attempt to pull onto some of the hardest lines in Cala Barques and proceed to flail SO hard that he managed to drench the first 5 meters of every climb he touched…he did this for several days. He was travelling alone and had set up camp beside me on the beach. I was alone too.

Charlie and I
One night I hear “pssssst!” coming from outside my tent.

“Hey!! Do you want some sweets?”

I peered out of my tent and met Charlie, with a joint hanging from his lips and wine in hand, he straddled a giant bag of junk food. I was taught to never take candy from a stranger… they could lure you into a van and kidnapp you. But I had been watching Charlie for a while and he was far too innocent and comical to be dangerous. So I made a friend who changed my life. One week later he introduced me to my husband.

Anyways, this one phrase “Life is sweet, time is now” really resonated in me. It still does. It reminds me of the adventurous 20 year old I used to be before the responsibilities of adulthood sunk in. It reminds me to take chances and live life to the fullest. To say “yes” to opportunities that come your way even if all life’s pieces are yet to fall into place.

So here’s to this new chapter and heading into the unknown.
